Report of the Baton Rouge, Grosse Tete and Opelousas Railroad Company to the Governor of the State of Louisiana
Baton Rouge: J.M. Taylor, 1861. 7pp. Disbound. Minor soiling. Very good. Item #6314
Founded in 1853, the Baton Rouge, Grosse Tete and Opelousas Railroad ran from Port Allen to Livonia, with plans to expand. By 1861, however, the country was in the thick of the Civil War. New Orleans was captured in 1862, and the railroad went largely out of use. This work from 1861, therefore, describes the railroad at its pinnacle. It was officially defunct by 1883. Four copies in OCLC, at Southern Methodist University, Loyola University, University of Michigan, and the St. Louis Mercantile Library.
