A lengthy article by famed Rhode Islander Thomas Wilson Dorr on the geography, politics, and history of Russia and Turkey and the causes of the Crimean War, which had appeared in an issue of the Providence Daily Post in late November 1853. Dorr is known for his leadership of the populist suffrage movement in the state during the early 1840s that demanded universal white male suffrage and a new state constitution. He died less than two months after the present article was published. OCLC notes no copies outside of Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
