A sensationalist Mexican murder broadside, illustrated with a woodcut by José Guadalupe Posada and published by Antonio Vanegas. The text in prose tells the story of Juan Diaz, a sergeant in the Mexican army, who killed a lieutenant, Adolfo Lopez de Mendoza, following an altercation over Diaz's mistreatment of his wife, and further relates the details of his trial, conviction, and sentence to death. Also included are lyrics to two corridos concerning the Diaz crime and Posada's illustration, which depicts a man in uniform and under military guard facing his tribunal. The work was published in the midst of the Mexican Revolution and the year after Posada' death in 1913. Scarce, we locate just three copies, at the BNM, NYPL, and Arizona.
