[Early Official Transcript of a Lawsuit from Paris, Kentucky, Involving Collection of a Personal Debt]

Bourbon County, Ky. 1824. 6pp., written on two folded folio sheets, docketed on verso of last leaf. Old folds, minor toning and soiling. Very good. Item #5247

An interesting manuscript document from early-19th century Kentucky, recording the court proceedings related to the collection of a personal debt. Thomas Roberts of Bourbon County sued in court for the repayment of $70 plus interest from an individual named Morris Morris. The lawsuit began in 1805 and the present document details Roberts' long-term struggle to collect his debt from Morris (and then Morris's estate) over the course of the next twenty years. The debt appears to still be outstanding when this document was made in 1824. The transcript was executed by Thomas Arnold, the clerk of Bourbon County, who also includes an official seal at the conclusion of his own statement, which is dated September 24, 1824. The document is certified by Judge George Shannon of the Bourbon Circuit Court on October 25 of the same year.
