Trágica y Horripilante Muerte de Tres Personas Que Se Arrojan Desde las Torres de la Catedral de México [caption title]
Mexico: Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, [ca. 1912]. Broadsheet, approximately 12x8 inches. A couple of small nicks and one short, closed tear at edges, plus minute wormhole in upper left margin, none affecting printed area. Even tanning. Good plus. Item #4548
A scarce, sensationalist popular newssheet with three illustrative cuts by Posada. The text memorializes, in prose and in verse, the suicides of Juana Lopez and Margarita Pereda, who leapt to their deaths from the east tower of the Mexico City cathedral just before Christmas in 1912. The first of the two women carried her infant son Alfonso to his demise, as well. OCLC locates only two individually catalogued copies, at the Iberoamerikanisches Institut in Berlin and the University of Toronto.
