Decorah, Ia. [1855]. Handbill, 9.75 x 7.75 inches, printed on ruled paper. Old folds, minor edge wear, a few creases. Very good. Item #4463
A seemingly-unrecorded promotional handbill, handsomely printed on the northeastern Iowa frontier, touting real estate services to emigrants following the removal of the Ho-Chunk peoples to Minnesota. The company would later become the First National Bank of Decorah. A sampling of the text is as follows: "The immense emigration, the rapid rise of Real Estate, and the intimate acquanitance with the Country, of one of the Partners of our firm, enable us to make investments that are both safe and profitable, either in Government Lands or second hand Real Estate, in the vicinity of new towns, which are constantly springing up and cannot fail to pay largely on the investment."
