Carriers' New Year's Address to the Patrons of The Evening Press and Morning Star. 1884.

[Providence: Hiram H. Thomas & Co., late 1883]. Broadside, 20.75 x 14.25 inches, text printed in three columns. Uniformly toned, minor chipping to edges, especially the right edge, some tape repairs to verso. Good. Item #3802

A rare carrier's address celebrating the holiday season, the printing press, the telegraph, the fairly new invention of the telephone, baseball, Rhode Island's "Revolutionary struggles," the healthy business environment of the area, and much more. Two entire stanzas focus on the area's history with Native Americans, mentioning Narragansetts, Niantics, Fort Ninigret (which the state of Rhode Island converted into a monument to honor good relations with the Narragansett tribe in this year), Pequots, and King Canonicus ("Truest friend of Roger Williams"). OCLC reports just a single institutional copy, at Brown.
