Attractive and well composed three-quarter length portrait of a young African-American woman in late 19th-century dress, taken by George Tichenor, who ran a photography studio in Burlington, New Jersey, until 1897. The subject is posed standing with her hands resting on a couch to her right, with a folding screen in the background. Her dress is plain but evidently well made, and some jewelry is visible on her left hand.
