Rare World War II-era telephone directory for Chinese listings in the Bay Area, issued by Pacific Bell. Aside from the cover title and several location headings in the text, the entirety of this publication is printed in Chinese. Pac Bell began to issue these Chinese-specific directories in the 1920s for the large but still relatively isolated communities in San Francisco, Oakland, and the region. All are scarce -- across serial and individual records in OCLC, we located only one copy of the present issue, at Stanford. This copy is in particularly good condition.
