[Photograph of the Habegger Evangelistic Party Quintet]
[N.p. ca. 1950s]. Sepia-toned photograph, 6.25 x 8 inches. Minor dust-soiling, a few creases. Very good. Item #4669
An original photograph featuring the Habegger Evangelistic Party Quintet, a missionary musical group of African Americans. The typed caption in the negative reads: "Quintet - Habegger Evangelistic Party. Go ye unto all the world and preach the gospel. Mark 16:15." Somewhat incongruously, the image of the quintet features nine African-American men and women in their Sunday best (six men standing and three women seated in front of them). One of the men and one of the women appear to be holding Bibles. We could locate just a single newspaper record mentioning the Habegger Evangelistic Party, noting that they were coming to visit Bellingham, Washington as part of the Missionary Convention of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. No holdings of any kind for the Habegger Evangelistic Party in OCLC. The present photograph might be the only record of their existence, or at least of their musical group.
