Congress of Racial Equality Northeast Regional Conference April 23-24, 1966...[wrapper title]

[Philadelphia: 1966]. 16pp. Quarto. Original wrappers printed in red and black, stapled. Minor wear and edge discoloration. Very good. Item #4602

A rare program for the 1966 Northeast Regional Conference of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), held at the Adelphia Hotel in Philadelphia, or perhaps a pre-conference advertising piece, as the text does not include any kind of proceedings for the conference. The closest the text comes to providing specific information about activities at the conference is contained in a half-page message by Robert Curwin, regional vice-chairman of CORE, who states that the conference will include "work shops on Negro History, Anti-Poverty, Community Organization and School Desegregation" and "will also be a 'kick-off' for our National Associate Membership Drive." The work is comprised mainly of a statement by the conference chairman, Bill Mathis, printed over the course of two pages, and a number of advertisements for Philadelphia-area businesses and organizations, a service announcement about housing segregation, and Democratic political ads for local and statewide State Senate campaigns, as well as the governor's race (in an ad for Milton Shapp in which he poses for a photograph with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.). As far as we can tell, OCLC does not report any institutional holdings of this work.
