Sale of Unallotted Lands in Eastern Oklahoma Including Timber Lands and Surface of the Segregated Coal and Asphalt Lands at Public Auction by the United States Government [cover title]
[Oklahoma: 1917]. 133pp. Gathered signatures, stapled. Substantial foxing to outer leaves, text block uniformly toned. Very good. Item #4002
A seemingly unrecorded work concerned with the auction sale of all the unallotted tribal lands in twelve counties in the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations in Oklahoma, excepting certain tracts reserved for coal and asphalt mining purposes. The counties included McCurtain, Pushmataha, LeFlore, Latimer, Pittsburg, Hughes, Coal, Atoka, Haskell, Murray, McClain, and Carter. More than 3,000 lots were scheduled to be sold during the last two weeks of October 1917. The first three pages of the work lay out the terms and condition of the sale; interestingly, winning bidders would attain access to the surface land, but all rights to oil, gas, minerals, sand, stone, and timber would be retained by the Five Civilized Tribes. The remaining text presents details on the land tracts in table form, listing tract numbers, a description of each tract, the acreage of each, the estimated amounts of pine and hardwood expected on each plot, and the minimum bid per tract. No copies of the present title appear in OCLC, nor in auction records.
