A rare travel account of a Mexican farmer's adventures through Louisiana and Texas in the mid-20th century. Manuel Rosado was a farmer in Tabasco who, according to his prologue, provides “a simple descriptive work of impressions”
and a "sociological essay that aims to establish a comparison between our customs and those of North America." Rosado travels via the Gulf of Mexico to New Orleans, where he spends a great deal of time, then to a boarding house in St. Charles, and onward by bus to Houston, Austin, Galveston, San Antonio, and Dallas before heading back home via Laredo, Monterrey, Veracruz, and Frontera. Interestingly, much of Rosado's route is illustrated on the map on the front wrapper.

The work also includes chapters on “Como nos juzgan los norteamericanos” (“How Americans judge us”); “Como se difunde el patriotismo en los Estados Unidos” (“How patriotism spreads in the United States”); and an especially intriguing (naïve? or perhaps sarcastic?) chapter titled, “El Negro y la Sociedad sin Clases en Norteamerica” (“The Negro and the Classless Society in America”). The latter includes observations on the racist signage encountered in the South, reading "For white people" and "Only colored." In a later chapter, he notes: "En otra ocasion en Houston en una loncheria fue obligado con otro compatriota a comer en lugar separado, no precisamente con los negros, pero si separado de los Fear-Mann que alli comian." The title of the work translates roughly to From Planter to Tourist: Travel Impressions of a Farmer from Tabasco Through the Southern United States. OCLC reports just five copies, at the Bancroft, UCLA, California State University, Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco, and the Biblioteca Nacional.
