The Principal, Faculty and Students Request the Honor of Your Presence at the Closing Exercise of the Blackshear School...[caption title]

[Houston: 1935]. [3]pp., on a single folded sheet. Some holes punched into the inner margin, repaired with tissue. Good plus. Item #3476

A rare program for the end-of-term exercises of Blackshear Elementary School, a segregated primary school in Houston, Texas still in operation today. The program includes a one-act musical comedy, with synopsis and a list of performers, other speakers, and music, lists of faculty, class officers, and a full listing of students in the Spring and Mid-Winter classes. The principal of Blackshear Elementary, W.L.D. Johnson, served the school from 1918 until 1960. A rare and ephemeral program from an African American elementary school in Jim Crow Houston.
