The Griffith Music Foundation...Presents Marian Anderson Mosque Theatre Newark [cover title]

[N.p., likely Newark: 1942]. [8]pp. Original printed self wrappers. Minor wrinkling, light toning. Very good. Item #3352

A very rare program for a performance by Marian Anderson in Newark on December 9, 1942. The program prints twelve classical pieces performed by Anderson that night, authored by the likes of Haydn, Handel, Schubert, Bellini, and Cyril Scott. These classical performances were followed by four "Negro Spirituals" arranged by noted African American musicians Lawrence Brown, William Lawrence, Edward Boatner, and Hall Johnson, respectively. The performance was sponsored by the Griffith Music Foundation, the preeminent promoter of music concerts in New Jersey at the time. OCLC does not record any item-level records of this program, though some likely reside in archival collections.
