El Paso, Tx. Compañía Editora de "La Patria" 1923. 71pp. Individual gatherings, stapled. Light toning. Untrimmed and unopened. Very good plus. Item #3035

Unrecorded, newspaper press edition of the Mexican Constitution of 1917, produced by La Patria, an El Paso Spanish-language periodical of the late 1910s and early 1920s. "Silvestre Terrazas, the social outcast of the Terrazas clan, published the newspaper La Patria...from 1919 to 1925. La Patria voiced Silvestre Terrazas’s pro-Villista viewpoint and allowed its exposition to numerous residents in Mexico, as well as the borderlands.... In 1919, La Patria was considered to be the ‘official’ villista organ in El Paso" -- Historic El Paso (online). This edition of the constitution was published in 1923, possibly in response to the assassination of Pancho Villa by the allies of President Alvaro Obregon or the rebellion initiated against Obregon by Alfonso de la Huerta, both of which occurred that year during the run-up to the presidential election. Not in OCLC.
