Guadalajara: 1892. 631,[1]pp., plus folding map; 41pp. Contemporary quarter calf and marbled boards, spine gilt; original printed wrappers of second work bound in. Edges and spine ends worn; boards scuffed. Uneven browning, scattered foxing. Small tear from gutter stub of folding map. Good plus. Item #2954

An extensive and well-documented account of the Mexican Reform War, also known as the Three Years' War, as it occurred in the western state of Jalisco. The author, Miguel Cambre, was the state archivist in Guadalajara at the end of the 19th century, and presumably had access to a wealth of documentation relating to the 1850s civil war in Mexico. The folding map at the rear depicts Guadalajara as it was in September 1860. This copy is bound with a rare, separately published appendix, in which the author provides an annotated response and additional evidence in reply to several printed criticisms of the original work. OCLC locates only four copies of this second imprint. An important, unusually local history of the Reform War, with a scarce addendum.

Price: $600.00
