A normally-uninteresting imprint, being a simple pocket-sized printing of the Gospel of John intended to be given away, but the present example was sponsored by the Negro Scripture Mission of St. Petersburg, Florida. Almost nothing is known today of the mission or its practitioners, except for a brief mention in the Republican-Northwestern newspaper in Belvedere, Illinois on November 21, 1939. In that issue is a report that Walter E. Jensen of St. Petersburg would be speaking at the Mission Covenant Church about the Negro Scripture Mission, which had twelve missionaries at that time. OCLC lists just one other copy of this work as sponsored by the Negro Scripture Mission, located at Emory University.
