Los Angeles: 62nd A.D. Communist Party, 1947. Broadside, approximately 10.5 x 8 inches. Tanned. Minor wear. Still very good. Item #2124
Flyer promoting work done by the Communist Party in Los Angeles on behalf of the African-American community after World War II. The small broadside reports that a party delegation demanded that Safeway hire Black employees at their East 41st Street store, located in a predominantly Black neighborhood or face the consequences of a picket line and other bad publicity. In response, the Safeway agreed to hire Black workers within thirty days. The text concludes by asking local residents to ensure that this pledge was kept and to report other cases of discrimination.
