Roster of the non-commissioned officers of the Eighth Cavalry, listing name, rank, and date of appointment. The list is divided into sections by troop (A through K), as well as the Hospital Corps, Non-Commissioned Staff, and Regimental Non-Commissioned Officers. Each troop is comprised of ten men (one position is noted as "Vacancy"), with ten further men in the other three categories. The Eighth Cavalry was formed to fight in the Indian Wars on the frontier after the Civil War. Fort Meade was established in 1878 to protect the Black Hills after gold was discovered there and white settlers began to invade the area. Unrecorded and ephemeral -- we locate no copies in OCLC.
