Los Angeles: 1913. 68pp. 12mo. Original yellow printed wrappers, stapled. Wrappers separating, some wear and chipping, lightly soiled. Good plus. Item #1074

Pamphlet by Methodist minister Charles Locke on the evils of prostitution and the dangers of girls being lured into a life of sin and white slavery. Topics include "Is the Social Evil a necessary evil?" and educating one's children properly to avoid the evils of lust and sex. The author argues that woman suffers most, though man sins the most -- a social situation as old as the time of Christ. We locate a single copy in OCLC, at UC Riverside. Another work of similar title published the same year (White Slavery in Los Angeles) appears in a handful of copies, mostly in California institutions.
